Somang Lee

Somang Lee is an illustrator. She is interested in our internal realms and how they connect to the external world.
Imagination is the place these two come together.

‘Kindheitswald’ (Childhood forest) is inspired by German fairytales and folklore.
As someone who grew up in Germany and has been greatly influenced by its many tales I wanted to go back to the place where my imagination started flourishing as a young girl.
It is an internal world that has now been made visual in a living space where one would usually sit and eat or sleep.
The forest of my childhood is not meant to be naive and idyllic but shows the darkness of a child’s imagination as well as it’s secrets.
